Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 25, 2026

1. Who we are and what this covers

This policy explains how Lode LLC DBA Fractals (“Fractals,” “we,” “us”) handles personal information on fractalsnetwork.com, the community websites on the Fractals network, and the Fractals Network app for iPhone (together, the “Services”). Our Terms of Service also apply.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account: your email address, your password (stored as a one-way hash, not in readable form), and your name if you add one. One account works across every community on the network.
  • Votes and suggestions: your votes in polls and approval ratings, and polls you suggest. We publish results as percentages only. We don’t publish who voted or how any person voted.
  • Event submissions: the title, description, date, location, link and contact email you give when you add an event, plus any paid upgrade you choose.
  • Requests and messages: what you send when you email us, fill in a form, or ask us to bring Fractals to your town (town, state and, if you give it, your email).
  • Premium and other purchases: web purchases are processed by Stripe. We store your subscription status, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers and transaction records, not your full card or bank details.
  • In-app purchases: Premium bought in the app is processed by Apple. Apple handles your payment details; we never receive them. We receive the transaction and subscription information Apple provides (such as the product, transaction identifiers, purchase and expiry dates and renewal status) and link it to your Fractals account to unlock Premium.

Information collected automatically

  • Sign-in sessions: a sign-in token (in the app) or session cookie (on the websites) that keeps you signed in.
  • Server logs: like most websites, our servers record basic request information, such as IP address, browser or app type, the page or data requested and the time, for security and troubleshooting.
  • Website analytics: fractalsnetwork.com uses Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to count page views and clicks in aggregate.

3. The Fractals Network app

You can read the app without an account. Here is what the app does with your information:

  • Stored only on your phone: your chosen communities, the things you track, saved items and what you’ve already seen. These are not sent to us today. Deleting the app removes them.
  • Location: if you allow it, the app asks for your approximate location once to find your town. It is used on your phone and never sent to us. You can choose a community by name instead.
  • Your account: if you sign in, the app stores your sign-in token in the iPhone Keychain and sends it only to Fractals community sites. Signing out deletes your sign-in tokens on our servers and clears the app’s sign-in data on that phone.
  • Calendar: “Add to calendar” uses Apple’s own calendar screen. The app doesn’t read your calendar.
  • Maps and addresses: to show an event on a map, the app may send the event’s address (not your location) to Apple’s map service.
  • Notifications: the app asks for notification permission only when you turn notifications on. When alerts for tracked items launch, we will store your device’s push token, platform, app version and time zone, the items you choose to be alerted about, your notification settings, and a record of alerts we send and open, all linked to your account. Signing out removes the device from your account. You can turn notifications off at any time in iPhone Settings.
  • No third-party trackers: the app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting software and doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

4. How we use information

  • To provide the Services: sign you in, count your votes, show results, list and manage the events you submit, and unlock Premium, including checking that an in-app subscription is active.
  • To send messages you need, such as sign-in and password-reset codes, event confirmations, receipts and, if you turn them on, alerts.
  • To answer support requests and corrections.
  • To keep the Services secure, prevent fraud and duplicate voting, and fix problems.
  • To understand overall use of our websites so we can improve them.
  • To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.

5. Who we share it with

  • Service providers that run parts of the Services for us under their own privacy terms, including Stripe (web payments), Twilio SendGrid (email), Plausible (website analytics), our hosting and storage providers, and Apple (App Store, in-app purchases, notifications and maps).
  • Community editors and publishers, only as needed, for example to review an event you submitted or to fulfill a Fractals Print subscription.
  • Legal and safety: when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users, the public or Fractals.
  • Business transfers: if Fractals is merged or sold, information may transfer under this policy.

6. No sale of your data, no ad tracking

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We don’t use your information to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

7. How long we keep it

We keep account information while your account is open. When you delete your account we delete or de-identify your personal information, except records we must keep for legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention or dispute reasons, such as payment records. Published poll and approval results stay as anonymous totals.

8. Your choices and account deletion

  • Delete your account: email [email protected] from the email address on your account with the subject “Delete my account.” We will confirm the request, delete your account and sign-in sessions, and sign you out on every device. If you have Premium, cancel it first so you aren’t charged again: in iPhone Settings for in-app purchases, or on the community website for web purchases. Step-by-step help is on our Support page.
  • Access or correction: you can ask for a copy of your information or ask us to correct it using the contact details below.
  • Notifications and location: turn them off at any time in iPhone Settings.
  • Emails: marketing emails include an unsubscribe link. Account and transaction emails are sent as needed to run your account.

9. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords as one-way hashes, keep the app’s sign-in token in the iPhone Keychain, and limit access to personal information to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us about any unauthorized access.

10. Children

Fractals accounts are for people 18 and older, as set out in our Terms. The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We will post any changes here and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.

  • We collect subscriber names, email addresses, and postal addresses to manage recurring print subscriptions and deliver issues.
  • We share only the mailing fields needed with authorized publishers, staff, and print or mailing vendors for fulfillment. We do not sell subscriber addresses.
  • Stripe processes payment details, recurring billing, refunds, disputes, identity verification, and publisher payouts under its own privacy terms. Fractals stores provider identifiers and transaction records, not full card or bank details.
  • Mailing exports are access-controlled and sent with no-store instructions. Publishers must use them only for the applicable fulfillment task and delete local copies when no longer needed.
  • We retain account, consent, subscription, fulfillment, and financial records while needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, meet legal/accounting obligations, and prevent fraud. You may request access or deletion; legal or financial retention duties may limit deletion.

Fractals Insider founder updates

  • If you join the Fractals Insider list, we collect your email address, the page you signed up from, and any campaign/referrer information in the link you followed.
  • We use it only to send occasional founder updates about Fractals. We do not sell it.
  • Your address is stored in our site database and with our email provider, Twilio SendGrid, which delivers the updates.
  • Every update includes an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to remove your address at any time using the contact details below.
