Contact support

Email [email protected]. Tell us which community you use (for example, Salina), the email on your account, and your iPhone and app version (shown at the bottom of the You tab).

Legal and privacy requests: [email protected]. Corrections to a story or number: see how we correct information.

Do I need a separate account for each community?

No. One Fractals account works across every community on the network, in the app and on the community websites. Sign in once in the app and you’re signed in to all of your communities. Signing out signs you out of all of them on that phone.

You don’t need an account to read. Reading stories, events, numbers and local businesses is open to everyone. An account lets you vote in polls and approval ratings and see their results.

How do I sign in or create an account?

  • In the app, open the You tab and tap Sign in, or tap a poll or approval rating.
  • Sign in with your email and password, or choose Email me a code to get a one-time sign-in code by email.
  • New here? Tap Create an account. We email you a code to confirm your address, then you’re signed in.
  • If you already have an account on a Fractals community website, use the same email and password.

How do I reset my password?

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot your password?. We email you a code. Enter it and choose a new password. Setting a new password signs you out of the app on your other devices.

Didn’t get the email? Check spam, make sure you used the address on your account, then tap Send a new code. Still stuck? Email support.

How do I buy, restore, cancel or get a refund for Premium?

Premium is an auto-renewing subscription tied to your Fractals account. You can buy it in the app through Apple or on a Fractals community website through Stripe. Either way, it unlocks in the app and on the websites when you sign in with the same account. Deleting the app or signing out doesn’t cancel it.

Bought in the app

  • Buy: sign in, choose Premium in the app, and confirm with your Apple Account. Apple bills your Apple Account.
  • Restore: on a new phone or after reinstalling, sign in and tap Restore Purchases.
  • Cancel: iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions > Fractals Network. Turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge.
  • Refund: Apple handles refunds for in-app purchases. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Bought on the website

  • Buy: on your community’s website, sign in and choose Premium. Stripe processes the payment.
  • Restore: nothing to restore. Sign in to the app with the same account and Premium is there.
  • Cancel: sign in on the website where you subscribed and open the manage subscription page in your account. Cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
  • Refund: email support from the email on your account.

Not sure how you subscribed? If Fractals Network appears under Subscriptions in iPhone Settings, you bought it through Apple. Otherwise email support and we’ll check. Full terms are in Terms section 14.5.

What is Tracking?

See what's changing around you. Track what matters. Track an event, a team, a local number or a community and it shows up in the Tracking tab. When something new happens with it, it moves to the top of your briefing.

To track something, open it and tap the star. Tap the star again to stop tracking it. Today, the things you track are stored on your phone, not in your account.

How do notifications work?

Alerts for the things you track are coming soon and will need a free account. The app only asks for notification permission when you tap Turn on notifications in the Tracking tab.

To turn notifications off at any time, open the iPhone Settings app, tap Notifications, then Fractals Network. When alerts launch, you’ll also be able to choose which tracked items alert you from inside the app.

Why does the app ask for my location?

Only to find your town when you first set up the app. It asks for your approximate location once, uses it on your phone, and never sends it to us. You can skip it and pick your community by name instead.

Events, polls and corrections

  • Add an event: submit it from the app. Each community’s editors review every event before it’s listed, and we email the contact address you give a link to manage it.
  • Polls and approval ratings: results are shown as percentages. We don’t publish who voted or how anyone voted.
  • Something wrong? See how we source and correct information.

How do I delete my account?

Email [email protected] from the email address on your account with the subject Delete my account. We’ll confirm the request, delete your account and your sign-in sessions, and sign you out on every device. Some records, such as payment history, may be kept where the law requires it. See our Privacy Policy.

If you have Premium, cancel it first (in iPhone Settings for in-app purchases, or on the website for web purchases) so you aren’t charged again. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription.

To clear what’s stored on your phone, such as your communities and the things you track, delete the app.
